Green Eggs and Ham

March 13th
During March we have been concentrating on reading Dr. Seuss Books. Dr. Seuss really knew what he was doing because these books are as magical for early readers today as they were when I was learning how to read. It seems as if this is the time of year when the "magic" really sets as I see reading skills starting to taking off! Part of our celebration of Dr. Seuss was making green eggs and ham. Most tried them eagerly, some wanted second helpings, a few were reluctant, but most who tasted them gave them an enthusiastic thumbs up. 

Kaeden Lademann was last week's Star Student. We found out that Kaeden wants to be an engineer or builder when he grows up and one place he would like to go is Kalahari.

WOW! What a birthday surprise I got!! Thank you so much for making my birthday so special!  The children did a great job keeping the surprise a secret! I felt very special - Thanks so much!!

As the saying goes, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. During the month of March we will be counting "lion" and "lamb" days. So far we have yet to see a "lamb" day but it looks hopeful as we progress further into the month. 

 We will spend time this month reading the stories of Dr. Suess. One story we heard was Bartholomew and the Ooblek. This is a story about a king who is tired of typical weather and wants something different to fall from the sky. Well, eventually the whole kingdom is covered in a sticky, green substance called ooblek. After hearing the story, we made some ooblek using cornstarch, water and food coloring. When you mix this together you get an unusual substance that is not quite solid or liquid. If you want make it at home use twice as much cornstarch to water, add a few drops of food color and mix together. You will have fun playing with this intriguing concoction.

Lillie, Carson and Dominic have been a Star Students and they each did an excellent job on their presentation. Below are photos of the first three Star Students. 

 Lillie would like to visit Washington DC and if she had one wish it would be for a puppy.

Carson wants to be a golfer when he grows up and would like to visit California. 

Dominic wants to be a football, basketball and baseball player and his favorite subject is math.
